Tryouts

Bluffton Rush SC (“BRSC”) provides a positive playing and learning environment that fosters long-term player development and personal growth. Our player-centered approach, backed with a national-level program and elite-level coaching provides our players with the highest quality soccer training and development in America. 

The process begins every May when we conduct our annual tryouts and player placement process. During this process we formulate teams in a manner that provides the most challenging and competitive soccer environment for each player. With the understanding that soccer is a long-term developmental sport, the club is careful to place each player on what we feel is the most appropriate team, the team upon which the player will grow, develop and enjoy their soccer experience the most.

The process also includes Player Evaluations for our youngest players who will join our Pre-Academy. Every player aged 7-10 who wants to join the BRSC Pre-Academy is welcome.  The Player Evaluations are designed to help players and their parents map out the most fun, meaningful, and productive pathway for their development in the game.  For more on the BRSC Pre-Academy and our coaching philosophy for these, our youngest players, please visit our Pre-Academy page.

It is the role of BRSC Technical Director and the entire BRSC Coaching to do what is in the best interest of each individual player. Winning is viewed as a positive byproduct of player development, not the goal itself. Player evaluations are a collaborative process among all BRSC Staff and the placement of each player is taken very seriously.

Registration deadlines

We encourage ALL players, whether you are new to BRSC or returning, to register in a timely manner. This helps us organize each tryout session far better and makes your experience at BRSC Tryouts smoother and less stressful.

REGISTRATION DEADLINES

PRE-ACADEMY EVALUATIONS: 7U (2018), 8U (2017) and 9U (2016)   Sunday, April 28th

YOUNGERS: 10U (2015), 11U (2014) and 12U (2013)     Monday, April 29th

OLDERS:  13U (2012) and Older:     Wednesday, May 1st

Late registration will be subject to an additional fee of $10 fee.

CRITERIA

When we look at the athletes, we measure their: 

• Technical Abilities (e.g.  ball control, passing and receiving and defending skills)

• Tactical Awareness and Decision-Making skills (e.g. vision, ability to read the game and movement off the ball)

• Physical Attributes (e.g. speed, agility, strength, etc.), and

• Psychological Profile (e.g. work ethic, competitiveness, ability to learn from mistakes)

Present BRSC players are evaluated twice a year by their Coach. Those evaluations are an important part of the tryout and player placement process for the following seasonal year.

FORMAT

The BRSC tryout format is very simple. Our goal is to let the players play and showcase their talents. Coaching will be held at a minimum and activities will be easy to understand. The evaluators will grade each player in the 4 listed criteria above and make specific comments on each player. The Head Coach, in consultation with our Technical Director, the Evaluators and the player’s prior year BRSC Coach (if a returner) will select his/her team. 

Invitations

At tryouts or immediately after they are concluded, BRSC will extend invitations to players. BRSC may invite returning players earlier than first-time players simply because the club is familiar with their level of play. This is particularly true in older age groups in which players have been with BRSC for many years. At the latest, BRSC will extend invitations 48 hours after the final tryout session. Players who are invited to join BRSC, no matter when that invitation is extended, are given 48 hours to respond. The goal is to establish our teams as early as possible so registration of all of our players can be accomplished and our teams go into the summer together to train and perhaps attend an early season tournament.
